Sightseeing in Rome with a mobility problem? Resolved!
Tour in a golf cart, with a private guide!
Difficulty rank:
If walking is a problem but you want to see Rome, this is the tour for you!
Touring by golf cart is the very best way to tour Rome for a disabled person, who has a wheelchair, stroller or even just a senior citizen! We have special golf carts that accommodate three people and store a wheelchair! Everyone sits facing forward, no-one feels excluded. The golf cart makes the tour of Rome very special and easy for people with walking problems. These little electric cars are allowed to drive practically anywhere, especially if a disabled person is aboard. The golf carts are very easy to get in and out of even for people with limited mobility, they have no doors.
Please note that our largest golf cart takes 7 passengers but if there is a wheelchair this will reduce the space to 5 passengers (plus the wheelchair). Groups of 6 and over will need 2 or more golf carts.
Tours start at 9.30am and 2.30pm
We have a variety of tour available that you can view here.
The large golf carts normally accommodate 7 people plus driver but, to accommodate a wheelchair, a scooter or a walker, we have to recline the last row of seats and this reduces the capacity to 5 + driver.
Therefore, if you have a group of six and you carry cumbersome gear with you, like a wheelchair, walker, or mobility scooter, your group won’t fit in one cart. Two carts will be needed to accommodate your group. However, the cost of the tour will not be doubled, the additional cart and driver will only cost you an extra 150 euros.
► The tour of the Vatican for seniors and disabled
We organize “skip the line” tickets to enter the Museum. The complete tour takes 3 hours (but it can be shortened if you wish), and leaves from our offices near the Museum entrance, we advise a 1.30 – 2.00pm start.
Your authorized English speaking Vatican tour guide (also other languages available) will explain everything as you pass through the following itinerary: Belvedere Courtyard, Pigna Courtyard, Library Gallery, Gallery of Tapestries, Gallery of Maps and finally to the Sistine Chapel.
To get from the entrance of the Museum to the Sistine Chapel it will take between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on your interest and how the crowds will be moving inside the Museums the day of your visit. From the Sistine Chapel our guide will take you directly into St. Peter’s Basilica (avoiding a long walk and queues into St. Peters).
The tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, still depending on your interest, will require between 30 minutes and one hour. In St. Peter’s you’ll see the famous Pietà by Michelangelo, the funeral monuments of the Popes who are buried in the Basilica, made by the most famous artists, the mosaics, the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, Bernini’s Canopy, St. Peter’s Statue, Peter’s Throne and many other fantastic works of art.
► Colosseum & Forum Tour
• 8.30/9.30 start outside Hotel Forum. We will explain the most famous places in this vast archeological site. You will have your own private guide in English, who will explain to you all about Ancient Rome, the importance of the Forum and Colosseum, transporting you back in time. This fantastic experience will remain more memorable as your guide explains the significance of the sights you will visit. If you have seen movies like “The Gladiator”, now you will actually see where the Gladiators fought in the Colosseum. With a wheelchair, it is possible to visit the lower floors. After the Colosseum the guide will take you to Forum, where for who has a wheelchair there is a non-slip pathway through the center of the Forum only.
